
Julie London (nee Peck; September 26th 1926 - October 18, 2000) was an American singer and actress with a career that spanned over 40 years. A torch performer renowned for her gorgeous, sultry contralto singing, London recorded over thirty albums of pop and jazz standards between 1955 until 1969. The first time she was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame was her performance of "Cry Me a River", a song she premiered in her debut album. In addition to the musical notice, London was nominated for an award called a Golden Globe Award in 1974 for her role as nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency!. London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. Her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's 35 year acting career began in the film industry in 1944. It included parts as the female lead in numerous westerns. The singer signed a recording contract with Liberty Records in the mid-1950s. This marked the beginning of her professional musical career. In 1969, she released her last studio album. However she was a star in television's Emergency show in the role of Dixie McCall, a female nurse. (1972-1979), she was married to her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb produced the show.
