Lee Roy Selmon has a history that combines family scholarship football with volunteer work in the community. First of all Selmon was brought up by Lucious and Jessie Selmon. They lived on a farm near Eufala located in Oklahoma as the youngest of their nine children. He was also one of three siblings that represented Oklahoma on the field of football. All three of them were All-Americans. One year 1973 Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy was named the top offensive lineman in country by Outland as well as Lombardi Awards. Over the course of three seasons, Oklahoma was 32-1-1 with Roy serving as their starting line-up. The team also took home the national title twice. In 1975, Selmon was awarded his third scholarship, and was named the National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon holds a bachelor's degree in education. Lee Roy dedicated ten volunteer times a week in college. After graduating, Lee Roy settled in Tampa which is where he played for nine years playing for the Buccaneers. 3 times he was selected All-Pro. He began his business career. The first position he held was an Account Relation Officer at First Florida Bank, Tampa. He was a member previously for the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. No wonder that in 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce named him one of the nation's 10 outstanding young men. Lee Roy weighed 256 lbs and stood at a height of 7-foot-2. When he was playing college, he commanded the 1975 team. Lee Roy joined the University of South Florida in 1993, as assistant director of sports. In 1988, he was voted into the College Football Hall of Fame. He also made the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame as well as the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation awarded an award of the Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon the Governor of Oklahoma was the person who presented the award.
